Group Travel on the West Somerset Railway

Your Party will be very welcome on the West Somerset Railway. We will do our best to ensure that everyone has a great day out, whatever their age or interest. We offer generous discounts for parties of sixteen or more adults travelling together.

Many Parties begin their journey at Bishops Lydeard, four miles from Taunton. There is a large, free coach and car park at the Station. The train will take you on a leisurely journey, arriving in Minehead in a little over an hour (see our times and Fares pages). At Minehead the Station stands on the seafront with promenade, beach, harbour, shops and resturants and pubs just a short stroll away. There is space for coaches to pick up and set down adjacent to Minehead Station.

Alternatively, our Station at Watchet is close by the marina, whilst the picturesque village of Dunster is twenty minutes walk from the station. (Please see the about us page and click on the Station which interests you).

General Information

Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the departure of the train you wish to travel on.

We will be pleased to arrange a special train for your special occasion; wedding receptions, anniversaries, retirement, the office party or for corporate entertainment. Please contact our Commercial Office Team (see the contact us page).

We can carry passengers in wheelchairs in our trains. Please let us know as space is limited and we can book you seats in Advance on 01643 700384.

Party Catering

Our steam trains offer light refreshments from the buffet car. We will be pleased to make special arrangements for your party. As capacity is limited this must be planned well in advance.

Booking and Payment Procedure

All bookings must be made at least two weeks before the date of travel. Please fill in the downloadable form attached and send it to;

Alternatively you can ring us on 01643 700384 or email the form back to us at info@west-somerset-railway.co.uk. We recommend however that if you wish to pay by credit card these details are sent by post as we can not guarantee the security of this site.

We require a 10% deposit at least 7 working days before travel to confirm your booking which will be deducted from your final fare.

All bookings will be acknowledged and confirmation sent.

The balance of payment must be paid to the company before travel commences. Remittance can be sent to the head office at Minehead at least one week before the day of travel, then your ticket will be sent to you direct. Payment can also be made on the day at the booking office of the station from which your journey commences at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of your train.

If the party is joining the train at an unmanned station (Crowcombe, Stogumber, Doniford and Washford) then please pay the Guard or ticket inspector on the train.

Regular customers may be invoiced by prior arrangement with the Commercial Department Team at the time of booking only.
