Mixed Traction Weekend 2010

Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June

The West Somerset Railway Mixed Traffic event is not to be missed.

This years event is themed GWR 175 - Diesels in the West and will feature the WSR home based Hydraulic fleet as well as three guest engines from other Railways.

Steam power will also feature on the Saturday and Sunday

Catering

Bar and buffet facilities will be available throughout the Gala on most trains serving a range of hot and cold food, tea/coffee and a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. At Stations: refreshments including hot food will be available at principal stations including Bishops Lydeard, Williton, Watchet and Minehead. Light refreshments should also be available at Blue Anchor, Stogumber & Crowcombe Heathfield.

Museums & Model Railways

The Gauge Museum at Bishops Lydeard, Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust museum at Washford and Blue Anchor Railway Museum will all be open. There is a Trackwork display at Crowcombe Heathfield. The Taunton Model Railway Group’s base at Bishops Lydeard will also be open (small separate admission charge payable).

Williton

At WILLITON you will have the chance to visit the excellent Diesel Heritage Centre, which features much information about the early Western Region diesels in particular. The shed/workshop of the Diesel & Electric Preservation Group will also be open, offering a rare glimpse inside, and several diesel locomotives will be on display in the yard, some of which can be ‘cabbed’. The D&EPG sheds and yard area will be open on all three days, 10am to 5pm.

Also open at Williton will be the WSRA's engineering base where you will be able to view 6960 Raveningham Hall; 7821 Ditcheat Manor and small prairie 4561 all in various states of repair and renovation.

Souvenir Programme

Our new format colour souvenir programme which will include the complete working timetable & locomotive rosters for all three days will be available from 7th June from Minehead and at all stations during the event priced £3.00 per copy.

DMU Shuttles

On all three days we will be running DMU shuttle services from Minehead towards Blue Anchor.

Free Bus Link

A special FREE bus service linking Taunton station, the Park and Ride car park at Silk Mill and Bishops Lydeard station will run at least every 30 minutes on ALL THREE DAYS. The service will start from 09:30 collecting from under the Taunton Station bridge each day, with the last bus connecting with the final train arrival at Bishops Lydeard.

Timetable Notes: FO - Runs on Friday 11th only.  F/SO - Runs Friday 11th &Saturday 12th only. SO - Runs Saturday 12th only. S/SuO -runs on Sat 12th and Sun 13th only. DMU shuttles to operate from Minehead towards Blue Anchor on all three days. All timings and locomotive availability may be altered at short notice due to operational reasons

Please note that ALL privilege tickets, free passes and voucher facilities will NOT apply at the Spring Steam Gala. Special Event fares apply to all passengers. Discounts are available on Rover Tickets purchased IN ADVANCE - see the Booking Form.
