The West Somerset Railway Spring Steam Gala is a great way to start your 2009 Steam Season and is now firmly established as one of the top heritage railway events of the year.

The 2009 event promises to be one of our best ever and be up to the very high quality of successful Steam Galas held over recent years. If you have never sampled a WSR Spring Steam Gala you just don’t know what you’re missing!

This year the event takes place over two weekends, each weekend being slightly different from the other.

Turntable

Following successful trials at Gala's late last year, you will be able to see steam locomotives turned on our fully restored former GWR locomotive turntable. A feature that was common in the days of mainline steam 40 years ago, yet rarely found on today’s Heritage Steam Railways. The bonus at Minehead is that you can stand on the platform and see the locomotives turn.
