Toy and Train Collectors Fayre - 2009
The months have sped by and the 2009 version of the annual Minehead Toy & Train Sale will be taking place at Minehead Station on Sunday 2nd. August 2009.
First held way back in 1984, twenty-five years ago, the event made the move to the West Somerset Railway in August 2003 and immediately became a big hit with traders and public, alike; the attraction of steam trains operating around the event all day is just too good to miss for many people.
Organizer Chris Dyer told us this week, “ Minehead is one of the best-supported events which we promote and indeed, all the stalls were let by early May and that is remarkable in the present economic climate. Traders come from all over England and Wales and I know that they really look forward to their day at Minehead. A lot of extra business is generated for the town in general by the event and also on the Railway, as many people travel to Minehead by train for this show”.
A wide range of toys but especially trains (and other related stock such as books, railwayana etc.) both old and new, will be on sale from a great “mix” of traders and collectors. Famous names such as Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox, EFE, Hornby, Lima, Bachmann etc. will be in evidence and it is a great chance for collections to be added to as well as a fascinating trip down memory lane.
Chris added, “Traders are also keen to buy and exchange so do raid the attic and search out those dusty and long dormant items which can now be turned into cash or other items, on a swap basis. From my point of view, the traders are a really loyal bunch and a couple attending our Minehead event this year were even present at out most distant show, in Northern Ireland, last November”. Why not make a weekend of it and combine it with a visit to the Steam Fayre?
