The Quantock Belle operates on the scenic West Somerset Railway between Bishops Lydeard (near Taunton) and Minehead, recreating that wonderful, nostalgic atmosphere of the great days of steam.  Our diners enjoy good food and excellent company as the train winds its way through the beautiful Quantock Hills, past the ancient port of Watchet and along the coast to Blue Anchor Bay.

Whatever the occasion may be – a special anniversary or birthday celebration, a cosy dinner for two, or a Sunday lunch out – we are sure you will find dining on the Quantock Belle a delightful and memorable experience.

The Quantock Belle operates on a limited number of dates and is extremely popular.  Advance booking is therefore mandatory.  Your fare includes:

  • Return travel at your reserved dining table;
  • A four-course meal with tea or coffee served during the journey;
  • Value Added Tax, as applicable.

A comprehensive bar service, including a varied wine list and soft drinks, is provided to your table by our attentive liveried stewards throughout the day and charged towards the end of your return journey.

A vegetarian option (homemade gluten and dairy-free) is available as an alternative to all advertised menus but must be notified at time of booking.

We arrive at Minehead on conclusion of your main course where there will be an opportunity to take the sea air and enjoy a leg stretch, while our steam locomotive (Diesel on 19th August) is serviced and readied for the return journey .  Dessert is served soon after we set off again, followed by a continuous tea and coffee service.  On Sunday luncheon trains all incorperate a longer layover in Minehead (approximately two hours). These dates are denoted by an asterisk (*) in the schedule.

Ticket Pricing Explained

We offer tables of two and tables of four through our website. As table space is limited and we have many couples travelling with us there is a £10 premium to reserve a guaranteed table for two. The £10 premium has automatically been applied to the table of two option. If there are two in your party and you are happy with the possibility of sharing a table of four with another couple, please contact us by phone on 01643 700398 and the £10 premium will not be included.  

It is not possible to book one or three tickets through our website, to purchase one of these options please phone us on 01643 700398 where we will be able to assist you.

See the beautiful village of Dunster illuminated entirely by candlelight.  The Quantock Belle will transport you to Minehead, where you transfer to reserved road transport to complete your journey to a magically-lit Dunster village.  A three-course meal is served during your outward journey.

GALA EVENT RESTAURANT CAR SERVICES

On selected dates during West Somerset Railway gala events, the Quantock Belle serves Full English Breakfasts and Hot Lunches. On these dates, our restaurant car is open to all WSR ticket holders. The first service must be pre-booked for breakfast, the remaining services will be on a first come, first served basis. We endeavour to closely replicate British Railways restaurant car operations on these dates.

Spring Steam Gala:   22nd - 25th March 2018
Diesel Gala: 8th - 10th June 2018 
Autumn Steam Gala: 27th - 30th September 2018
Winter Steam Gala:  29th & 30th December 2018 

Other Information

If you or any members of your party are vegetarian, have any other special dietary requirements or food allergies, these must be notified at the time of booking if you indicate that you have dietary requirements, you will be contacted by one of the team over the phone a few weeks before the event. We are unable to accommodate short notice dietary requirements. If you or any members of your party have a severe food allergy, due to the nature of a train galley kitchen we are unable to guarantee that cross-contamination has not taken place.

· Saturday evening dinner services are strictly adult only.

Well behaved children, minimum age 10 years, are welcome aboard luncheon services, on condition that they are fully supervised at all times and remain seated throughout the journey.

 · Due to the historic design of our dining cars, with their narrow doors and gangways, it is NOT possible to accommodate wheelchairs at the tables. It is important to note that passengers with mobility issues will be required to climb up and down two steps to get into and out of the train and walk a short distance to their reserved seat.

 · All passengers are required to dress smartly and are respectfully advised that T-shirts, shorts, sportswear, jeans and trainers are not permitted.

* We cannot make any refund in respect of unused tickets unless we are able to resell the seats prior to departure, in which case an administration charge of £10 per booking will apply

 * Passengers are carried subject to the Conditions of Carriage of the West Somerset Railway PLC, whilst every effort will be made to maintain advertised services, no liability for loss, inconvenience or delay caused by cancellation or alteration can be accepted.
