WEST SOMERSET RAILWAY 40th ANNIVERSARY EVENING SPECIAL MEGA TRAIN

Summer is getting near and the long daylight evenings are here to be enjoyed. So, as part of our 40th Anniversary Weekend why not enjoy a non-stop steam train journey to and from Minehead on the West Somerset Railway?

On Saturday June 8th a special train with up to 14 coaches, headed by two Great Western Railway steam engines will leave Bishops Lydeard station (near Taunton) at 7.15 p.m and return later that evening, this service has an additional charge of £10 for travel, and £22.00 to include Fish and Chips.

Passengers can enjoy the changing light in the beautiful Quantock Hills as the two engines work hard on the climb to Crowcombe Heathfield and then descend to Williton.

After Williton, people can watch the sunlight fade as the sun descends over Blue Anchor bay.   There will be a half hour stop at Minehead with time for a leg stretch before the train returns through the gathering dusk to Bishops Lydeard.

Why not enjoy some refreshments on the journey, from the licensed buffet car on the trains?

Amongst the offerings will be a special commemorative 40th anniversary bottled ale, brewed by our neighbours at Quantock Brewery - an ideal drink for not only toasting the last four decades but also the future of the West Somerset Railway too!

Tickets for the full weekend are also available.
