RAILWAY MUSEUMS DURING THE SPRING STEAM GALA

There are three railway museums along the route of the WSR and they will all be open during the Spring Steam Gala. The West Somerset Steam Railway Trust has taken responsibility for the Gauge Museum at Bishops Lydeard and one of the largest exhibits on display there is part of their Heritage Carriages Project. It is Great Western Railway sleeping car 9038 dating from 1897. As well as the static exhibits there is a model railway on the upper floor.

The Steam Trust also runs the small museum at Blue Anchor which houses artefacts and relics from the GWR and the Western Region of British Railways.

Washford station is home to the Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust with exhibits in the station and in wagons in the yard evoking memories of the much missed Somerset and Dorset Railway. There will be shunting demonstrations in the yard during the Gala and the workshops will be open.
