50th Anniversary Weekend - 1976 re-opening re-creation train

1976 Train

Our first event of 2026 is to celebrate 50 years of the reopening of the line on the West Somerset Railway.

In 1976, the West Somerset Railway reopened its doors and ran services between Minehead and Blue Anchor. This weekend is dedicated to commemorating this momentous occasion.

We will be re-creating the inaugral service with the locomotive that was used back in 1976 - Bagnall 0-6-0ST No.2996 ‘Victor’.

There will be a ceremony at Minehead Station at 9:30am to mark the occasion, with celebratory music performed by Burtle Silver Band.

This special service will depart Minehead at 10am and travel to Blue Anchor, arriving at 10:15am.  It will then return at 10:35am, arriving back into Minehead at 10:50am..

Please note that only special ticket holders can travel on this train - purchase your tickets now to secure your place!

To travel on any other service over the weekend, you will need to have purchased a separate ticket to travel.
