Calling all amateur sleuths!!

Do you see yourself as Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes? Well, the West Somerset Railway's Murder Mystery season is a must for all you amateur crime fighters!

As you go peacefully about your train journey, the actors will be staging a murderous tale for you to solve.

Apart from the dastardly doings, your steam train ride will also include fish and chips, plus a drink served at your seat on the outward journey. There will also be Styles ice cream served as you travel back to Bishops Lydeard.

The entertainment begins on the platform (Bishops Lydeard) promptly at 19:00. Boarding is from 18:45. Passengers should arrive in good time to find their seats and leave the train again for the first scene on the platform.

The dress code is 'smart casual' and we encourage you to enter the spirit of the event by dressing in appropriate period costume if you desire!

Please be aware due to the nature of the stock, we are unable to accommodate mobility scooters and wheelchairs on these specials. If you have any accessible requirements, please do give us a call on 01643 704996. 

These evenings are not suitable for children.

The food options for the Murder Mystery Specials are:

  • Standard Fish and Chips

  • Halloumi fries and Chips (gluten free option)

Palm Oil is used for all frying.

The drinks options for the Murder Mystery Specials are:

  • WSR Quantock Steamer Ale, an amber beer served in a 440ml can with an 3.8% ABV

  • Thatcher’s Gold Cider 440ml Can 4.8% ABV

  • Carlsberg Lager Pint Can 3.4% ABV

  • Red Wine Hidden Road Merlot 187ml 11% Vol

  • Rose Wine Hidden Road White Zinfandel 187ml 10.5%

  • White Wine Pinot Grigio 187ml 11%

  • Pink Gin & tonic can 250ml 5% Vol

  • Orange Juice

  • Apple Juice

  • Bottle of Water

The Going is Fatal - 27th June 2026

It’s the day of the 1929 Little Hampton Gold Cup and everyone is excited about a trip to the races! Sadly, local trainer, Roy Lascott, has fallen at the first fence! Has stable owner, Bea Chersbruck discovered something amiss amongst the hay? Has gambler, Newton Abbott finally placed the wrong bet? The next train might be delayed - there’s a dead body in the Waiting Room! Travel writer, Miles Suppertrak has written his final

chapter but which of his travelling companions is cutting short his career? Is publisher Mac Millan pressed for a deadline? Is fiancée Bree Fenn-Cownter hiding something in her dust jacket? Or is secretary, Celia Wholesupp looking for something between the covers? 

Ticket Terms and Conditions

1. This ticket is issued subject to the Rules and Regulations of the West Somerset Railway PLC. Full details are available on request.

2. Please check your tickets as mistakes cannot be rectified.

3. It is the responsibility of the ticket holder to ascertain whether a service has been cancelled and the date and time of any rearranged service. If a service is cancelled or rescheduled, we will use reasonable endeavours to notify ticket holders of the cancellation once we have received the relevant authorisation from the West Somerset Railway PLC. Please note that we cannot guarantee that ticket holders will be informed of such cancellation before the date of travel.

4. The management reserves the right to refuse admission should patrons breach any Rules and Regulations of the West Somerset Railway PLC. The management may on occasions have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.

5. A £5 administration fee per booking will be charged for any subsequent booking alterations this means administration changes. We are unable to make date changes to your booking. No refunds will be given once tickets are issued. The Management cannot be held responsible for any tickets which are lost or stolen. West Somerset Railway PLC reserves the right to cancel ticket bookings which it reasonably suspects to have been made fraudulently.

6. The West Somerset Railway PLC operates a No Smoking policy this includes e-cigarettes.

7. The unauthorized use of photographic and recording equipment for public use is prohibited.

8. The West Somerset Railway PLC accepts no responsibility for any personal property.

9. Ticket holders consent to filming and sound recording as visitors.

10. If a service is rescheduled, ticket holders will be offered tickets to the rescheduled service, equivalent to the face value of the ticket. If a service is cancelled, ticket holders will be offered travel on an alternative service (subject to availability) up to the value on the ticket.

11. Purchase of a ticket does not guarantee a seat unless otherwise stated.

12. All of these terms and conditions are governed by English Law.

13. The ticket holder must comply with all relevant statutes, safety announcements and West Somerset Railway PLC regulations whilst visiting the railway.

14. Breach of any of these conditions or any unacceptable behaviour likely to cause damage, nuisance or injury shall enable the railway to refuse to carry you as a passenger.

15. Tickets may be restricted to a maximum number per person. We reserve the right to cancel tickets purchased in excess of this number.

4. Additional Conditions applicable to Bicycles, Perambulators and Animals

  • a) Passengers may take with them by train, bicycles, perambulators, push chairs, cats, dogs, or other small and inoffensive animals and birds and such articles as the Company may from time to time permit to be taken on payment of extra charges as applicable and providing the Company has suitable accommodation. These are carried at the company's discretion and their decision is final.
  • b) Animals are not allowed upon passenger's seating accommodation. They must remain on the floor at all times.
  • c) For reasons of hygiene, animals are not permitted in catering vehicles or in any carriage where pre-booked catering is being served. This condition will not apply to assistance dogs accompanying registered persons.
